This process begins with our land development company, Academy Development. Our engineers, designers, and project managers work tirelessly to acquire and develop land throughout the state of Texas and beyond.


We conduct market and customer research to deeply understand where communities are most needed, and how our customers want to live, work, and connect with others. Our resources and insights are shared across companies to ensure that SimplyHome and Legend Homes design and construct desirable, high-quality homes where people work, play, and want to spend time connecting to what matters most.

Our History

Marcello Camillo | Camillo Companies

Since the beginning, our companies have been focused on expanding access to opportunity and giving back to the community. The Camillo Family of Companies began in 1989, when Marcello Camillo developed his first community in Houston, TX.


Led by a grand vision — and with an ability to see around curves — Mr. C (as he was fondly known) grew from one business of 13 employees to more than 450 employees across multiple, thriving businesses.


During the financial crisis of 2008, Marcello saw a need for single-family rental homes and pioneered the build-to-rent industry. Today, SimplyHome by Camillo is one of the largest build-to-rent companies in the United States.


Marcello passed in 2021, leaving behind a legacy that continues through the companies he built and the people he inspired. In 2022, all operating companies came together to form the Camillo Companies, a unified identity honoring the strong roots of our past while recognizing and celebrating our commitment to a better future.
